Reopened (at Last): The Met's Islamic Wing

Completely forgot to post this before, but it's still relevant. The Met has reopened its Islamic wing (rechristened the Galleries for the Art of the Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia and Later South Asia—what a mouthful!). It was closed for renovation in 2003 and only just reopened last month. The New York Times featured an excellent interactive tour of some of the collection highlights, as well as a thorough review of the newly refurbished galleries. (Registration required; it's annoying, but free.) I will have to make it a priority to stop by next time I'm in NY—the Persian Room, which has been renamed the Damascus Room (image above) was always my favorite spot in the museum. Small but lovely and peaceful. It's weird to think that I haven't seen it in eight years.... Also, this had better be one helluva renovation if it took that long! Sounds promising, though.
